Hamilton, Mercedes … Vettel’s terrible admission on his time at Ferrari

Once again invited to take stock of his time with Ferrari, Sebastian Vettel admits that he was unable to do anything about the Hamilton/Mercedes combination in Formula 1, “one of the best we’ve seen so far”.

A Ferrari driver between 2015 and 2020, Sebastian Vettel decided to join Aston Martin for next season. It must be said that for the past two seasons, the four-time World Champion has been in great difficulty.

While he was able to bring the fight to Lewis Hamilton in 2017 and 2018, the German has come out of two rather complicated years. A decline that coincides with the arrival of Charles Leclerc at the Scuderia.

The Monegasque has put an end to the domination of Sebastian Vettel within the Italian team. Therefore, despite his 14 Grand Prix victories, which make him the third most successful driver at the wheel of a Ferrari behind Michael Schumacher and Niki Lauda, Sebastian Vettel is aware that his move to Ferrari will remain a failure, notably because of the domination of Lewis Hamilton and Mercedes.

“We were confronted with a very strong team/driver combination, one of the best we have seen so far. But our goal was to be stronger than that and in that respect we failed.

“We had good races, bad races, we got closer, sometimes further apart. There are a lot of reasons for this, but on the whole it is not unfair, it is just the truth.

“We had the ambition and the objectives to win the championship and we didn’t do it. I think it’s just an honest reflection. I don’t think saying it out loud changes anything”
