Alexander Albon’s seat at the Red Bull F1 team is threatened for 2021 and Nico Hülkenberg, well placed on the shortlist to replace the Thai driver, seems more than open to the idea of becoming Max Verstappen’s team-mate.

Facing the supremacy of Mercedes, Max Verstappen remains as ‘best as of the rest’. The Dutchman holds solidly on to 3rd place in the world championship with encouraging performances that overshadowed his team-mate Alexander Albon.

The Thai, selected last season to take over from Pierre Gasly, is struggling to do better than the Frenchman and former Verstappen teammate. As a consequence, his seat for next year is threatened and German Nico Hülkenberg seems to be in pole position to take over the reins, had it not been for Sergio Perez.

France’s NextGen Auto publication reports that the man who made a few appearances this season for Racing Point has made a clear appeal to Red Bull in order to rescue the seat at Verstappens side saying:

“When a door like this one opens, it is completely unpredictable.

“But of course it can happen. That’s why I keep myself in shape. I’m waiting now. Red Bull knows that I am available if needed. ”

With three races to go and no sign of improvement from Alexander Albon, the signature of Nico Hülkenberg could well come true except for the fact that TJ13 understands advanced talks between Perez and Red Bull Racing have indeed occurred. And with Perez performances this season, especially in Turkey with a 2nd place finish, maybe the Hulk will lose out to the Mexican.
