Wolff under pressure about hosting Netflix

The last time Mercedes let the Netflix cameras into their garage, the reigning world champion team experienced its worst race of the 2019 Formula 1 season.

This weekend at the Russian Grand Prix, the Mercedes team will host a Netflix film crew at its Sochi premises as it records footage for the third season of Drive To Survive.

But considering what happened last time when Mercedes opened its doors to the Netflix team at the 2019 German Grand Prix, team manager Toto Wolff admitted he was a little worried before the Russian Grand Prix.

In the end, the German Grand Prix was the worst Mercedes race of the 2019 season, with Bottas retiring and Hamilton finishing in a distant ninth place.

Toto Wolff therefore hopes that the presence of the Netflix cameras this weekend at the Russian Grand Prix doesn’t bode badly for the performance of his team on the Sochi Autodrome.

“Last year [the film crew] followed us to Hockenheim where we celebrated our home race and 125 years of motorsport – and had our worst race of the season. “said Wolff.

“It made for a very entertaining Netflix episode, but we hope this time we can have great content and a great race. »

The Austrian can nevertheless let the stress back off a little since his team has won every Russian Grand Prix since the race was added to the calendar in 2014.
