Mercedes director speaks on Wolff departing

Mercedes team technical director James Allison would like to see Toto Wolff continue with Mercedes competing in Formula 1 for a few more years.

Mercedes Technical Director James Allison hopes team boss Toto Wolff will remain at the helm of the Brackley team “for many years to come”.

Toto Wolff is currently reflecting on his future in F1 with the Mercedes team he has led since the beginning of the hybrid era, as his contract with the German manufacturer comes to an end at the end of this year.

Wolff’s track record at the helm of the Mercedes team speaks for itself as the team has won six manufacturers’ titles in the last six seasons and as many drivers’ titles.

When James Allison is asked what he thinks of Toto Wolff’s possible departure at the end of this year, the Briton replies that he would like to be able to work with the Austrian for a few more years.

“I don’t think any of us would underestimate for a moment how important Toto is to this team,” James Allison told Channel 4.

“He brings and has brought stability for many years and it’s been a challenge for all of us to aim for the highest possible absolute standards.

“And this standard never wavers, but it is done with humour, fairness and a degree of kindness that makes the team an extremely pleasant place to work.

“Internally he is a fantastic leader, externally he protects us from the shark pit that F1 can sometimes be.

“He has been, I would say, one of the most important pillars of this team’s success and I hope he will be with us for many years to come. ”
