The future Aston Martin team will be relying on Sergio Perez and Lance Stroll next season in F1.
The Racing Point team, which will become the factory Aston Martin Racing team next year, will continue to have confidence in its current driver duo next season, as Otmar Szafnauer confirmed on the radio in Canada.
We already knew that Sergio Perez had a contract with the team until the end of 2022, but Lance Stroll’s contract expires at the end of the 2020 season.
“It’s crazy, the crazy transfer season for 2021 has already started, and we haven’t played a single race in 2020. “says Otmar Szafnauer on Radio Canada Sports.
Ferrari’s announcement that Sebastian Vettel would not extend his contract beyond the 2020 season surprised the Racing Point team manager.
“I’m a bit surprised that they couldn’t come to an agreement. Sebastian is a great driver and he is a friend. I have known him for a long time. He has achieved so much in F1.
“He even won at a very young age when he was with Toro Rosso [in 2008 at the Italian GP], which is incredible. He deserves to stay in F1.
“It’s true, there are Grand Prix winning drivers on the market at the moment, even world champions, it’s an interesting idea. But we prefer to get the best driver we have. ”
“If we give them the best, they too can win races and possibly become world champions. Our two drivers get along well. And they are contractually bound for 2020 and 2021. ”
