Strong message from Red Bull to Pierre Gasly & Kvyat

Pierre Gasly was dropped from the Red Bull senior F1 team halfway through the 2019 season, but he has managed to get back on track with his impressive return to the junior Red Bull team; Toro Rosso.

Helmut Marko, the director of young driver development, sent a strong message to the Frenchman.

Certainly, he was the surprise of the Brazilian Grand Prix at the end of last year. Out of the Red Bull team, Pierre Gasly landed halfway through the championship with the sister team Torro Rosso.

It was a punishment for the man who had put in a string of disappointing performances. But this decision had the expected effect since Pierre Gasly made up for it in the second half of the season with a nice 2nd place at the Brazilian Grand Prix. Although he will not rejoin the Red Bull team in 2020, Pierre Gasly has received a strong message from the head of the young drivers, Helmut Marko.

“He can become a great driver in the future” claims Marko.

“It was an incredible blossoming. Now you see what the psychological aspect is. If I said now that I expected this, it would be a total lie. Unlike Kvyat, Gasly has recovered. Thank God for him and for us. I think he will have learned the lessons of those six months at Red Bull. I think he can become a great driver in the future,” said Helmut Marko in a recent interview with Motorsport.com.

Although the statement from Marko praises Gasly, it certainly damns the Russian driver Daniil Kvyat – seemingly forgetting the podium gained at the German GP at Hockenheimring last year.

Favoritism is indeed alive and well at Red Bull.

One response to “Strong message from Red Bull to Pierre Gasly & Kvyat

  1. I suspect Vips is being groomed for a seat at Toro Rosso / Alpha Tauri for 2021. Who goes? If Albon does well that leaves Gasly as the one likely to leave as any chance at Red Bull is gone. I’d bet he ends up at Renault as an all French team is what they have always preferred.
