The Mercedes AMG team has announced a multi-year partnership with computer chip producer AMD.

This new multi-year partnership will see AMD’s logo on both sides of the Mercedes W11 cockpit this season, as well as on the drivers’ racing suits, team clothing and on the ‘command bridge’ on the pit wall.

The new partnership will also see the Mercedes-AMG team use AMD commercial solutions, including AMD EPYC server processors and AMD Ryzen ™ PRO portable processors, to optimise the team’s various workflows. Or so the press release claims.

“At AMD, we are at our best when we create breakthrough technologies that push the boundaries of what is possible in high-performance computing. “said John Taylor, director of marketing at AMD.

“We are delighted to partner with the Mercedes-AMG team, a team that is at the forefront of technology and with whom we share a common spirit to deliver incredible innovation and performance from factory to racetrack. 

“Innovation is at the heart of Formula One, we always try to push the technological limits in our quest for performance. ” adds Mercedes Toto Wolff.

“We are delighted that AMD is joining our team as a partner and look forward to the road ahead as we explore sophisticated solutions to unlock untapped performance potential.”

It’s worth noting that AMD was once a rather sizable sponsor of Ferrari not so long ago. This ‘multi-year’ deal hasn’t had a definitive length in years given, but certainly hints that Mercedes are at least looking more longer-term than short for participating in F1.

Mercedes will present its new car for the 2020 season on Friday 14 February, with the AMD logo also visible on the W11 from that day.
