With the recent movements in the Formula 1 driver market, TJ13 will answer the question as to who are the F1 drivers for 2020? With Nicholas Latifi’s start today at Williams in preperation for the upcoming Formula 1 season, the 2020 grid is now complete.
Canadian Nicholas Latifi became the last confirmed driver for the 2020 Formula 1 season on Thursday, which now gives us a final overview of the grid for 2020.
Ahead of the Mexican Grand Prix, Claire Williams had actually claimed that announcing Latifi prior to the Abu Dhabi race would be ‘premature’ (see movie player below), but it seems then that William’s decided to announce the driver lineup slightly earlier.
Nico Hülkenberg will no longer be on the Formula 1 grid in 2020. The German will be replaced at Renault by the French Esteban Ocon, while at Williams, it is the Pole Robert Kubica who will leave his seat to the Canadian Nicholas Latifi.
What is rather unusual for 2020, is that all drivers are already confirmed before season end. Normally some teams hang onto their announcements well after the last race of the season. 8/10 teams keeping the same lineup which is a testament to how many teams are retaining their drivers for 2020.
What is also unusual for the 2020 F1 driver line-up is the fact that for the first time in a long time the grid will feature 3 French drivers – Pierre Gasly, Romain Grosjean and Esteban. Some argue too that Grosjean is actually Swiss as he was born in Geneva and holds dual French-Swiss nationality., but he does race under a French flag.

F1 driver line up for 2020, no teenagers
Something caught my eye first thing this morning on the Reddit F1 subreddit, and that was someone (u/Pizzashillsmom) pointed out that for the first time in a while, the 2020 F1 driver lineup won’t feature any teenagers. Not since 2013 in fact.
2014: Daniil Kvyat(19)
2015: Max Verstappen(17)
2016: Max Verstappen(18) and Esteban Ocon(19)
2017: Lance Stroll (18) and Max Verstappen (19)
2018: Lance Stroll (19)
2019: Lando Norris (19)
In 2013 the youngest driver was Max Chilton (21) and in 2020 the youngest driver will be Lando Norris (20). All ages are based on their first entry in that season and does not include free practice drivers.
