Sebastian Vettel experienced a weekend to forget at the Ferrari home race in Monza. To make matters worse, the German received a 10-second stop-and-go penalty and three penalty points for his collision with Lance Stroll.
If he collects another three points by 19 October, the now ‘dangler of balls in the pool’ will be banned from the next race (a joke from 2013). Ex-Champion Nico Rosberg will compete for the German’s cockpit (a joke from 2019).
“It’s hard to believe that he already has nine penalty points! If he scores twelve points in the next three races, he’ll have to skip a race for Ferrari,” says Rosberg in his latest YouTube video and adds: “I’m applying now! I’ll be available if that should actually happen.”
Obviously Rosberg is joking, as the alleged German from Monaco whose father was a Finn oft does these days on his latest popularity attempt on Youtube.
“No, I’m only kidding!” he then confirms.
However, the lack of form of his fellow countryman still occupies his mind. Vettel’s spin at the Ascari chicane was “peculiar” and “impossible to explain”. After all, the German is four-time world champion and “one of the best drivers out there. One of the greatest of all times” if stats can be believed.
“I don’t think he knows exactly what happened.” During his ‘in depth’ analysis Rosberg, can even sympathise a little with the Ferrari driver and has understanding for his quick return to the track, where he finally touched Strolls Racing Point.
“I can still understand the crash with Stroll. He was stuck and had two options: Either wait for the whole train to pass him, his race is over, or he takes a risk and just drives out and hopes that nobody comes. He risked it, which I understand.” says Rosberg.
But of course Vettel should have thought twice, after all the situation was “damn dangerous” according to Rosberg. For the next few races it’s clear: “He has to drive totally clean in the next three races.” On 19 October two points from last year will expire.
At the US race in 2018 he was penalised for speeding too fast under a red flag. There were also two points at the Canadian GP this year for the ‘uncertain return to the track’ in the fight against Lewis Hamilton and at the British Grand Prix 2019, there was of course the collision with Max Verstappen.
“It’s unbelievable how many penalty points he’s already collected. So something really went wrong with Vettel. These are really difficult times for him, very dark… very dark…” mutters Rosberg in a Trump like manner.
“Leclerc wins at home in Monza and becomes a national hero – and Vettel has his worst weekend.”
Vettel has one advantage appraises Rosberg: his self-confidence. “That will help him out of this crisis. Formula 1 is also a short-lived business. You just have to strike back once, then everything else is forgotten again.”
As a driver you are always as good as the last race. “If he wins a race now, everything will be forgotten. So we shouldn’t write him off, he’ll definitely fight back.”
Unlike much rhetoric coming from the British and Italian media outlets, Rosberg still doesn’t see Leclerc as the clear number 1 in the red team. To him, the two are now on an equal footing. After two victories for the 21-year-old, it is now time for Vettel to end his lean period (last victory Belgium 2018).

The relationship between Renault and Max Verstappen could certainly be better, the Dutchman replied to the Frenchman’s claim that the 1,000 hp mark had been broken in his own engine:
