Arrivabene in Monza: Constructors still open, Kimi sends his greetings

The Autodromo Nazionale di Monza yesterday hosted the 2018 edition of the Ferrari World Finals. A celebration of all things Ferrari with classic and contemporary F1 cars along with Ferrari challenge sports car races.

Ferrari drivers Giancarlo Fisichella, Davide Rigon, Andrea Bertolini and Marc Gené were in attendance. Absent, however, all other drivers under contract with Ferrari: Sebastian Vettel and Kimi Raikkonen, but also Antonio Giovinazzi, Charles Leclerc and Daniil Kvyat, who no doubt were looking ahead to Brazil this weekend.

Team boss Maurizio Arrivabene addressed the crowds with a speech that included “A special greeting from Kimi, who won in the United States.”

“We met after the race and he said something very simple: ‘It took a while’ time, but this victory will remain in my heart along with the world of 2007. If you go to Monza, tell all the fans.

“Thank you for me, this success is for them”

Sainz happy with ‘plan B’ option in McLaren

“You’ve never heard anything bad from me towards Renault or the Ricciardo signing. For me with Renault, the only regret I have is not having a bit more time with them to get together some better results, you know,” Sainz told Motorsport.com.

“But the situation, life was taking us to this point. I think they are still happy that I am going to McLaren with Renault power. And I am sure we’re going to have a successful time.

“But it was just the situation, the way it evolved, that I was probably a bit forced out of there, and I had to get a plan B and that plan B was McLaren.

“As soon as I got the opportunity I had to sort out my plan B and McLaren was a great option for me.”

Brawn wants Pirelli to improve degradation/durability mix

“Apart from the usual differences in performance, tyre management was also responsible,” said Brawn.

“Nico Hulkenberg, Charles Leclerc, Stoffel Vandoorne and Marcus Ericsson did just one pitstop and all four were very cautious to make it to the finish on the same tyre.”

“On the one hand they have to bring tyres that degrade and make for exciting races, but on the other the drivers want to fully exploit the potential of their cars with robust rubber,” explained the British engineer.

“It’s not always easy to find the right compromise, so it’s very important that we work together.”
