Verstappen & Ricciardo’s new car – Red Bull 2017 concept

And you all thought yesterday’s Renault looked mean. The boys from Brackley might be looking over their shoulder watching for this beast in the hands of Max and Danny.

Alas, it is only a concept. But a very beautiful one rendered by the talented industrial designer Olcay Tuncay Karabulut. Olcay works as a designer for TT Custom Choppers in Istanbul in Turkey. He studied Industrial Design and Product Design at Marmara Üniversitesi GSF and has a passion for automotive design.

Be sure to check out more of his work on his Behance page.

Judging by the extreme proportions of Williams, Renault and Sauber with their reveals so far. Olcay’s designs aren’t actually far off the real thing.

On the 2017 rules and the illustrations Olcay has created, this is what he has to say about the cars we’re seeing launch this week:

“The rule changes taking place season are intended to make the cars faster and more challenging to drive, and enable more passing. We’ve lost track of how many times we’ve heard that and how many rule changes we’ve been through to to make it happen. The concept is involve an 1850 mm wide front wing – which is 200 mm wider than the version currently used – and a rear wing that is 950 mm wide and 800mm high.

The diffuser design will also be similar to how F1 cars were back in 2010, which should allow improved performance from the floor.
One change that has been approved is for the tyres to be slightly narrower than first proposed, because of concerns that the higher drag produced by the original concept offsetting all aerodynamic gains.

So the idea now is for the tyres to be 300mm wide at the front and 400mm wide at the rear. Current tyres are 245mm wide at the front and 325mm wider at the rear.”

Force India will be revealing their car later today. Rumour has it they might be stealing the limelight (or Orange light??) from McLaren. We hear on good authority that McLaren will be sporting an element of orange in their livery but will retain black and silver. Force India are clearing hinting at a similar scheme.

  1. Some interesting features on those cars. However, the pointy V shape of the front wing isnt my taste. But great work. I never heard of ‘behance’ but if he’s on twitter he’d get those pics to go viral.
