  1. Rosberg … Because he did well in practice, qually, and didn’t throw it off the track during the race

    • After Nico’s spat last week, probably felt like throwing him a bone. It’s long time since his last win in Austria.

      • Hard to be sure. He seemed sufficiently narked about the second pit call to suggest he wanted to challenge for the win.

Nico has had a few poles this year, he’s just failed to get in to the first corner first.

I think the difference is he sorted his start (maybe aided by Lewis being on the dirty side) and the various race circumstances meant Lewis couldn’t pass him on the track.

Much of the overtaking was engine-based – in other words, Merc/Ferrari on Renault and anyone on Honda at the end of the long straight. I wonder actually if Nico had set his car up more for the last sector to try and keep far enough ahead of Lewis to not be in danger on that straight. The temperatures meaning it was hard to run behind someone probably helped.

My feeling was simply that Lewis couldn’t get close enough to put in a serious challenge without doing something a bit rash and Nico had the sense to extend the first stint long enough to mean the tyres were so shot that Lewis couldn’t undercut him.

A genuine win, but one that might have been made easier by the track.

  2. My vote goes to Kvyat, he was on the pace from the get go. The safety car cost him, his place on the podium. Oh by the way, he has been consistently outperforming RIC in the second half of the season.

    • For me too, it was however a bit of a coin flip between him and Botas, because they both did a similar job, but nice bounce back from him all weekend. He got the wrong tyres after the SC, but that was more a team mistake as it was his.
Too difficult to tell however if Ricciardo was underperforming a bit or Massa a bit all weekend, so very close between him and Botas.

But I won’t agree with you about about Kvyat outperforming Ricciardo consistently in the second half of the season. I do however think Ricciardo might start to think as to why he gets his car damaged in so many races. A lot will say it’s just bad luck because he gets hit by others, however it’s him who leaves the door open for that to happen and he brings himself into situations where such things happen (Vettel Mexico was such an example).

  3. This time pointing out the best is a difficult question.
Who do you think was the worst driver?
    I say Kimi…

  4. Voted for Kvyat. Nico lost the vote since I think he would have lost if Merc hadn’t made Lewis pit.
