The toll of being a Formula One team boss has many stresses and strains. These manifest themselves frequently in terms of mental fatigue, but as Toto Wolff has demonstrated in recent times may also be physical in nature.
In 2014, Toto fell of a bike and broke his shoulder, collar bone, elbow and wrist. Suzie Wolff was hardly the sympathetic wife when she took to twitter saying, “My husband – the Hero. As we know, boys, will be boys. Looks like I am on nurse duty for the next few weeks”.
Toto clearly enjoyed his convalescence at the hands of his young wife – so much – he engineered another incident this year in an attempt to force Suzie back into her Florence Nightingale uniform once again.
This time we saw Toto on crutches for a while because he had a swollen knee as large as “a football”. Sources close to the Wolff family suggests Mr. Wolff was trying to emulate his wife’s exercise regime and fell from the dizzying heights atop of her gym ball.
Not wishing to be outdone ‘athleticised’ by his German counterpart, Mr.’ Come Good’ of Ferrari will be sporting an injury himself this weekend in Barcelona.
European media sources are reporting Mr. Arrivabene has undergone surgery prior to this weekend’s Spanish GP. The procedure required a general anaesthetic and the bodily part in need of attention was Maurizio’s wrist.
There is a media moratorium on how this injury occurred, however Arrivabene’s career in PR has led a number of observers to surmise this is a work related repetitive injury syndrome; inevitable and provoked by Arrivabene’s frequent association with corporate ‘bankers’.
Maurizio is sporting his injury with pride this weekend and his wrist is resting up – in a sling.
Fooled me. Thought it was Arrivabene Performed Surgery based on the report that the team’s sporting director has been sent off and that the logistics manager and the chef have been suspended.
This article would have been more newsworthy if it was actually about the new round of dismissals at Ferrari but alas this more the kind of news that you report when it’s a slow news day or F1 is having a summer break.
Actually, the report now says the sporting director suspended for activities unrelated to F1. Still odd.

“frequent association with corporate bankers”… there is one thing where bankers are good at and they repeat it as often as possible and that’s screwing their customers from behind. Arrivabene doesn’t strike me as someone who is susceptible to be one of the banker’s ‘happy customers’ but it does make you wonder what kind of repetitive actions are associated with bankers ;-P

Formula 1 executive directors and team principal lead difficult, stressful lives. They should be able to have fun once in awhile. As far as Toto, easy bone breakage and pulled muscles/ligaments runs in the family. I saw the inside of a doctor’s office many times growing up because I was so active so at first when my cousin was hurt I was horrified and then I had to giggle because I probably would have gotten hurt worse than he did. Does Maurizio ride bicycles or motorcycles?
