Kimi getting 20% of the votes so far…….really?
I’m thinking only 5 people have voted so far Fortis, so 1 vote is 20%. When I voted Nasr had 100%
He was very fast, especially on that second set of options. I dare say, Vettel might find it’ll not be easy to beat Kimi.
Since Vettel could only join in January, the car by neccessity had to be built using Kimi’s input and it shows that the SF15-T is definitely more to his liking. His driving today was a world apart from 2014. People had written off VET and RAI way prematurely after a single bad year.
Ok, so is that an early excuse if he gets beaten by Kimi?
Not really, merely the observation that both Vettel and Kimi looked much better than last year. Kimi would have finished behind in any case today as he was on the slower two-stop strategy.
I merely think that in some races it could come down to track preference and who gets the undercut if they are on the same strat.
Kimi is not the push-over he was last year in a car that was made after Alonso’s wishes.

Well, it is an influence isn’t it? Especially since RB really had him sit out his contract until the very last day. Normally people need some time to settle into a new team. His luck is that he and Kimi are similar in their preferences, else I would have expected Kimi to have the edge early on.
You could see he trusts the car more than the RB10 when he reliably pumped out them laps after Massa pitted. With Kimi I had the impression Kimi felt even more comfortable with it. For his standards he has been positively chatty lately 😀
Alonso is not there to bully him anymore.

Seb brought me my only points…. I cant even remember the last time I hated him. 😛 It’s nice to be able to root for Vettel at last. He already seems more at home with Ferrari than he ever was at RBR.
Of course they both look better, they’re not teamed against faster drivers. They only look less comfortable when pushing beyond their limits trying to keep up with a quicker team mate.

FH is spot on as to why folks voted for Kimi. Ferrari showed excellent race pace in FP2, and the race.
Looking at FP2 it was easy to predict a Ferrari on the podium, and Kimi looked a little bit faster in FP2 and the race as well. The natural order would’ve been Ferrari 3rd & 4th.
Kimi’s votes given Vettel is 4x WDC, yet in his 2nd stint in clear air he pulled himself up to 5th. Excellent drive!

Kimi and Seb is a great pairing.

Yep, this car is clearly an Allison 2012/13 Lotus paired with an improved Ferrari engine. Kimi had the sectors for 1:27.4 but didn’t put them together (mistake in T3).
Starting 3rd, he could have walked it today with his long run pace, but then being hit at T1 compromised his race (and Ferrari botched the pit stop).
Kimi/Vettel will probably be quite equal this year. Same now for Bottas/Massa as Bottas recovers from his back problem. This 4 car battle might be the best on the track.
Nasr with out question was DoTD, very GP2 darting all over the place early on and then holding on to that 5th place. I enjoyed watching him and Palmer battling last season in GP2 it’s just a shame Palmer wasn’t in the other Lotus instead of Pastor Maldonado, but his days must be numbered given the state of PDVSA and the Venezuelan economy, he’s almost outstayed his welcome. Hope Lotus have plenty of contingency budget for car repairs!

Gave it to Verstappen. Never thought he could pull this of in his first ever race. I got the feeling, pre season, that he would not know what came over him. So hats off to him. if it wasn’t for the bad luck he would have a enormous result for a youngster.

Hard tyres vs soft, yet Sainz was only 5 seconds ahead after 25 laps. “Spanked”… not quite.
Verstappen was on course for a certain 7th (and possibly even 6th) place. So I agree with bruznic.
I voted for Sainz for drive DOTR and DOTW given how he and Max were in the same situation and Carlos outperformed his team-mate all weekend long.
In the race, Carlos & Max were both on mediums at the same time with clear air in front of them on laps 26 to 31. Carlos was 1.2 seconds a lap faster.
Young Max may be God’s gift to F1, but young Carlos performed better on his first F1 weekend. Well done to both!
Th obvious difference for these five laps was that Sainz’s mediums were new and Max’s were 25 laps old. It surprises me that you’d present such a clear example of apples and oranges as a “fair” comparison.
No need to be defensive. Max had a pretty good weekend.
His team-mate who is also a very young rookie, performed a bit better.
There will very likely be weekends where Max will be a bit better than Carlos. It’s a good pairing.

Ceteris paribus is almost never satisfied in F1, which is why comparisons in F1 typically need some more careful thought than in the case of lab experiments.
MV on the other hand lost FP2 which is crucial track time at this time of the season + this time in his career. Sainz edged MV in qualy, MV edged Sainz in the race IMHO.
MaxV was on harder tyres

Bit off topic, but did anyone see in Ted’s qualy notebook Helmut Marko walking to the RedBull motorhome and stopping along the way to speak to Remi Taffin? All looked very awkward with Marko clearly miffed.

I was unaware of the shenanigans in the press conference – seems like Vettel rattled Rosberg judging from his replies. Are people going to start rethinking their “Rosberg is the cerebral one” narratives now? 😉

LH: I think Nico was just explaining… I didn’t know, I didn’t see the times or anything but I think the Ferraris have taken a huge step forward. It’s clear they’ve made one of the biggest steps. So we definitely cannot back off because I’m sure they’re going to be pushing. And I anticipate we might have a good fight with them at some stage this year…

Regardless of the race result my driver of the weekend is Giedo VDG. Sadly unable to vote.
Great to see Raikkonen for real again now he has a Ferrari to his liking! Max could have been at least sixth, considering his pace on the primes and upcoming switch to the option tyres.
If VDG would have driven, he too could have done what Nasr did. Ericsson would have been pointless in normal circumstances. Sainz had bad luck with his stop, but also dropped back after the restart and was not very fast in the last part of the race.
