Kevin Magnussen, like many drivers who have broken the seal into Formula One recently, was criticised earlier in the season after a string of incidents which showed his inexperience.  While I do not agree with it, the start of the German Grand Prix was one such event, where an extremely aggressive Magnussen tangled with Massa into the first corner.

Therefore, it brought a smile to my face watching a mature and more learned Magnussen take a near perfect line into turn one in Texas.  Where earlier in the year he would have closed the gap on the inside, he left just enough room and reaped the rewards of doing so.  While he has been dubbed ‘eff you up’ on the podcast, maybe that is a good thing.  Senna, Schumacher and a whole host of other drivers would have effed you up, so perhaps this is not such a bad quality after all.

On the Up

Catapulting themselves into the lead was Alexiadis F1 Team with a big score, 177 points, at the sharp end of the season, round 17.  It would only have been made better if Vettel had not been forced to pit at the end causing a string of fast laps and Lewis Hamilton had managed to secure pole.  Either way, the team leads the TJ13 league as head to Interlagos.

Simply stunning.  Not a lot more I can say about this one. The only race dampener was the slow pit stop by Williams which allowed Ricciardo to take 3^rd place.  74% accuracy is very impressive, so well done for the 53 place improvement.

With 30% accuracy it was hardly one to remember for Rutra.  The faith being shown in Alonso is admirable, but unfortunately misplaced.  Never mind, this weekend is Interlagos and another chance to improve.

Another powertrain for Daniil Kvyat was unforeseen and unfounded bad luck, as the stewards made reference to.  He tried to fight back, but in the end his efforts were in vein.  Similarly, there could have been few who would have seen Maldonado scoring his first points of the season.  Finally, he is off the mark for the Enstone team!

Food for thought

The Mercedes drivers were once again in a class of their own as they never looked in doubt of taking 1-2.  While they were ‘forced’ into covering the charging Red Bull of Ricciardo, they looked comfortable as they cruised away from him at just under a second a lap.  Not just for Interlagos, but their pace looks ominous for next season as well.  No wonder Alonso wants to be in a Mercedes really badly…it could be his last chance at a third title.

Answer: The 2010 Korean GP, in the fading light, was won by one Fernando Alonso as he looked destined for the title.  Of course, we all know what happened following that though…
