The #F1 Bar Exam: 26 June 2014

Welcome to another week of TheJudge13 F1 Bar Exam.

Last week’s question(s): Can you name the team, driver and Grand Prix at which the photo was taken. Did the driver finish the race and if so, what was his position?

The answer(s) I was looking for were: The car in the photo was the 1993 Ligier Gitanes Blondes, Ligier JS39-Renault driven by Martin Brundle. The photo was taken during the 1993 Australian Grand Prix where Gitanes bought out all the other sponsors to run their “funky” light blue and black camouflage colour scheme.

The livery was also used in the previous Japanese and was only run on Brundle’s car for both races. The unusual livery was designed by Italian Hugo Pratt, more famous for his creation of the comic book character, Corto Maltese.

Brundle managed to finish in the points at this race, six place which gave him a whopping 1 point to contribute to his total of 13 for the season and secure his 7th place in the championship.

This race was also the last race Ayrton Senna did, and won, for McLaren before his move to Williams for the 1994 season. Senna won the race with arch rival Alain Prost and Damon Hill finishing second and third respectively in their Williams-Renault cars.

The 1993 Australian Grand Prix also the last race of cars with active suspension which gave Senna the honour of being the first and last person to win in a car with active suspension.

Well done to Tim, The13thDuke, Bernard, Ken, Thomas888, Cassius42, Johnny, Tony, Milestone11 and Dave!

This week’s question(s): Can you name the driver, team and event where the photo was taken. Who was the other driver for the team and how many points did the team score throughout that season?
