Another weekend passes which must go down as missed opportunity for many.  A missed opportunity for Renault to finally get the powertrain perfected for their main team (at their home race), a chance to make inroads into Rosberg’s ever growing lead for Lewis Hamilton, a chance to stand on the podium again for Massa and, most importantly, a chance to make up the lost points in the GP predictor rankings that were lost in an unpredictable Canadian race.

The Austrian track was very much an unknown for us as we headed there with no recent knowledge of the renovated track.  The warmer temperatures meant the performance was different to that on Friday, in the practice session, so the only data we had was not reliable.  An interesting, if not spectacular, race followed.  Here’s how everyone got one…

On the Up

3 correct predictions in the top 5 were what made for the 18 position gain in the league for Archus Racing.  Slight misplaced trust in the Red Bull team at a circuit where power unit brake horse power was always going to be important meant 3^rd and 4^th placed predictions were unlikely to come true. Overall it was a happy home Grand Prix for the team.

One to Forget

Poor weekends Duurt’s #F1extra team did not have such a stunning weekend as it dropped 14 places, to 78^th in the league. A little more luck would have seen more than 18 points for the weekend – better luck at Silverstone Duurt!

Home GP heroics

Climbing 3 places to 13^th in the league, it was a happy return to the home Grand Prix for Pat F1 Team.  Scoring on 6 of the top 10 made for a successful week of 45 points.  Sergio Perez also brought in 5 points as he continues to give Nico Hulkenberg something to think about.

Nobody saw it coming

The recent upturn in the Red Bull performance fooled many a Formula One fan as much faith was shown in the Renault powered cars.  The irony was not lost on Christian Horner that the Red Bull brand’s worst weekend should come at their home Grand Prix, as he said “a review was needed” as to whether they would continue into the future with the French manufacturer.  How much of a distant memory those 9 victories in a row seem now.

Food for thought

A Williams on pole was beyond the wildest dreams of many a Formula One fan.  The popular Brazilian, Felipe Massa, was delighted to be on pole, but far less content with 4^th place the next day.  Can Williams perfect their car to really challenge the Mercedes pair at another high-speed circuit in Silverstone?

The Ferraris enjoyed a relatively low-key weekend as the ever reliable Alonso kept himself out of trouble.  The wiley Spaniard had come out today to say he would prefer to win “win more trophies” than gain “respect”, at same time he is 60 points ahead of his teammate who continued to struggle with the car. How will they fair at the British race?
