Castrol GP Predictor Summary – Interlagos 2013

Brought to you by TJ13 Courtroom Reporter & Crime Analyst: Adam Macdonald.

The best comparison I could give to this year’s TheJudge13 fantasy league would be to that of the 2010 World Drivers’ Championship.  Going into the last round, there were 4 teams in contention of claiming the title with the favourite enjoying a commanding lead over the rest.  It panned out to be the team in 3rd place who took the title after a poor strategy call from others presented the opportunity to take the honours of Champion.

So without further ado, here are the results…

On the Up – All the way up!    Your 2013 Champion

Interlagos - GR Racing

Finishing top of the league with a final points score of 886 points is GR Racing.  His Vettel like finish climbing from 3rd to 1st in the final round was inspired.  A 52% accuracy was largely down to predicting 5 of the top 10 places correctly.  Congratualtions!

Interesting to note that the only round which Vettel led the WDC in 2010 was after Abu Dhabi; the most important time!

One to Forget

Interlagos - Mattpt55 Racing

Mattpt55 Racing went into the final round with, in truth, everything to lose.  Leading and looking comfortable for the league victory, Lewis Hamilton and Romain Grosjean cost the team the honour of the inaugural TJ13 title.  Nevertheless, I’m sure the team will come back even stronger next year.

Mist Army finished 3rd place in the league, dropping 1 place in the final round.  One to watch for 2014.

Better luck next year

Interlagos - TJ13 Racing

It did not seem correct to write the post about the final race of the year and not include the head honcho himself, The Judge.  It was an unfortunate race for Mercedes GP, which ultimately cost TJ 7 places in the league.  He finished in 26th place, on page 2 of the league, giving hope to all us mere mortals that even the experts get it wrong sometimes.

Nobody saw it coming

As the season came to a close, the results seemed to be more and more predictable.  Nobody saw the resurgent McLaren’s pulling a result out of the bag; especially after that qualifying performance.  Some might even say Jenson Button showed the true class of a World Champion and Perez showed why he should remain in Formula One!

Last week’s Food for thought

If there’s rain in Brazil then it really will throw the cat amongst the pigeons.

The promised rain never came!

Whether Heikki Kovalainen will finally score a point remains to be seen…

The Finn put the final nail in what his Formula One career with a less than flattering display in Austin and Interlagos.

Last question’s answer

The question was: Which race this year has seen the smallest margin of victory and what was the time difference between P1 and P2?

Answer: The closest margin of victory this year was at an eventful British GP.  Nico Rosberg was followed home at Silverstone with Mark Webber just 0.765 seconds.  It was a thrilling race with a rare Vettel non-finish.

  1. Yah, actually Lewis’ excursion into the side of Bottas (vice versa in reality LOL) + Steward’s temporary lapse into “Lewis must be punished at all costs” Land (or if you believe such things “Ferrari must be made to overtake Mercedes if at all possible” Land) alone cost me first, as with Lewis in 4th (+10) and Button in between Nico would have finished 6th (+5) and the championship would have been mine. I was holding out slim hope until the drive thru, at which point I was forced to give up and just console myself with some decent Scotch.

2nd is just first loser of course, but still not bad for a colonial. FWIW, I made my predictions based on a dry race.

BTW I do believe TJ13 is wearing his Silver Arrows on his sleeve 😉

  2. I think “Ted’s Terriers” and “Kolominos” deserve a mention, the former for getting the most points this time (40 bonus points due to having got the top 3 correct) and the latter for a high score (30 bonus points for predicting pole, fastest lap, and most positions gained).

I am satisfied to have finished 7th.

    • I did consider adding them in, but didn’t want to make the post too long. Well done to them anyway!

  3. Congratulations to GR Racing, looking forward to next seasons contest where maybe head will rule over heart when it comes to the making of predictions… 🙂

  4. Well done all… great competition.

I started the season badly end ended the same way. Must get some more time in the simulator over the winter I guess.

My final predictions were meant for Australia 2014 – just posted them too early….. Go Toto’s…. sorry Niki’s….. or is it Paddy’s – boys (Ross of course will be gone by then). The four headed beast will become just 3…..
